SEND Support

Laura Smith is responsible for the SEND provision at Headingley Preschool. She works closely with Parents and Carers and a range of professionals to ensure we are offering the right support for your child. To find out more, take a look at our SEND page.

Our Ethos and Learning Style

At Headingley Preschool we understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ education and we pride ourselves in empowering all our children to be individuals.
Our experienced and qualified practitioners are able to tailor the children’s program of education to their personal learning style. This method of teaching ensures that the children make excellent progress during their time with us.
We are proud to offer an education that celebrates children’s diversity and individualism.
Headingley Preschool draws from the Reggio Emilia Approach to learning, which is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education, which values the child as a strong, capable and resilient learner; rich with wonder, motivation and knowledge.

Progress and Development

Your child will have a learning journey week every term. We will let you know when it is your child’s turn and ask for your opinions. Staff will make detailed observations of your child and monitor their progress during their time with us. We will share this information with you by uploading the observations onto Tapestry. Shortly, you will receive login details for tapestry.   Tapestry allows you to post things as well. It is fantastic when parents and carers post about their child because it allows us to discuss the experiences with the child and to develop any interests they have at home. You can post about anything that interests your child including family celebrations, day trips out or any achievements.

The approach understands that every child brings with them a deep curiosity and potential. It is this innate curiosity that drives the children’s interests and gives them the ability to understand their world and their place within it.
We support children to extend and inspire their own learning experiences by working collaboratively with caring and supportive adults who understand how to develop their skills and understanding.

Headingley Children’s Centre and Headingley Preschool have an established relationship and have enjoyed working in partnership for over 15years.

“As a Children’s Centre Manager it is vital that there are robust links to children transitioning from one setting into another. Working within a designated Service Level Agreement, it is in the interests of a child’s social and emotional development if the transitional period is one that is both familiar and capacious.”

Settling into Preschool

We have a flexible attitude towards settling in and we are keen to work with parents and carers. If you have any concerns about how your child may settle, please speak to a member of staff and we can discuss the best ways to support your child.    click here to find out more

Shire Oak

We are delighted to work in partnership with Shire Oak Primary School. We have particularly strong links with the reception class who are housed next door to preschool with shared facilities. This is a fantastic start for children who will be attending the school as they will be familiar with the building, teachers and grounds before starting school. Attending Headingley Preschool doesn’t mean that your child will automatically get a place in the school. This is the same for all nurseries based on school sites.

Snacks and Lunch

We provide a mid-morning and mid afternoon snack every day, including fruit, breadsticks, crackers or a biscuit and a choice of milk or water to drink.   If your child is staying for lunch, please provide a named and healthy packed lunch, we will provide a drink of milk or water.
